When Viktor Met Butch

19 July - 8 August 2013

Pertwee Anderson & Gold’s latest exhibition revolves around an imagined meeting between polar opposite artists: Butch Anthony and Dr.Viktor Schroeder.

When Viktor met Butch focuses on the fictitious conversations that occured during this meeting, and presents artworks each created in the reflective aftermath of the idea exchange. Both artists generate work in which death is a prominent theme, however they approach it from vastly different angles: Butch uses sharp humour to poke fun at the absurdity of the human condition, whereas Dr. Schroder chooses to confront it head on, sculpting romantic Vanitas works that deal with loss explicitly. The veiled approach of Anthony vs. the immediacy of Dr. Schroeder’s gives ‘when Viktor met Butch’ a mysterious yet thought provoking flavour.
